Cultural Programme

Over the past 10 years, Aktionsforum Praterinsel has become well-known amongst cultural circles of Munich and beyond.

Its cultural programme is focused mainly on exhibitions of fine arts. The variety ranges from classical modern art, historical perspectives from the 50ies onward up to their influence on contemporary art. PAST Traditional materials and working process are as much important to us as the new information media of the high-tech age. Current events

Apart from the so-called "established art", we equally offer almost unknown artists in our exhibition hall, the "Laboratorium", the possibility to exhibit their works in a professional environment.

Communication is capital: between tradition and change, history and actuality, young and old, known and unknown, between different disciplines such as economy, science and art, between right and left, below and above, between dissenters, different culture groups, and finally between reflection and high level entertaining.

Artist Studios

On the Praterinsel there are 18 artist-studios available – 2 of which are allocated to guests only. The studios are distributed in equal proportions of age, renown, discipline (painting, sculpture, performance, video art etc.) The guests´ artist-studios are only awarded to foreign artists, each respectively for a period of one year only.

At this stage (situation January 2002), all our artist-studios are in use.

However, in the event of interest, please fax or write with full details of adress, telephone number, discipline and space requirement (sq.m) to Aktionsforum Praterinsel. We shall contact you, as soon as there is availability. The artist-studios are promoted and supported privately.

Please do not wait to apply, though there is high demand and a long list of applicants!

Organization and Financing

The site of the former Riemerschmid-factory is since 1988 in private ownership. The Aktionsforum Praterinsel established on the island at the end of 1992 in addition to the then already existing artist-studios.

The situation produces – apart from its responsibilities for the artist-studios – an independent cultural programme and rents its facilities on a daily basis to companies and the public for closed functions and events.

The income provided by the private use, the support by the "Dieter und Olga Bock Foundation for the Arts" and the proceeds from entrance fees form the cultural budget of the Aktionsforum Praterinsel of around DM 800.000.

An approximate total of DM 1,8 million in private sponsorship/contributions flow in, for the running of all facilities used for cultural purposes, the exhibition rooms, the workshops and the artist-studios (19 studios in which 21 artist currently work).
